Seeing a koi that is in your care thrive and become more beautiful as it matures, is undoubtedly one of the greatest joys of koi keeping. A koi whose color, pattern and body are fully developed is often referred to as being "finished". The process of finishing requires basic care, a healthy environment, and good diet.

How to transport and introduce a new fish

When purchased, Koi are put in a plastic bag containing a little water and oxygen and must be carried quickly and safely to the place you intend to keep them. It is important that they are not shocked in transport. Before putting a new fish in the pool, float the unopened plastic bag on the pool surface for about 30 minutes. When the temperatures of the water inside the bag and the pool have equalized, open the bag and gently let the fish swim out of the bag into the pool. Try not to put the water from the bag into the pool.
